Artist's Statement

Influenced by my background in architecture, my practice pairs hard-edge geometric abstraction with linear perspective, drawing inspiration from liminal spaces and abandoned structures. I use sharp, converging lines and precise vanishing points to construct pathways, thresholds, and vacant environments, building tension between rigid, calculated geometry and organic, unpredictable underlayers.

Working across canvas, paper, and reclaimed wood, I adapt my approach to suit each substrate, allowing for a diverse range of techniques across each surface, canvas encourages fluid underpaintings, paper provides a surface for screen printing, and reclaimed timber is treated and polished to bring its aged patina directly into the work.

I am particularly drawn to working with reclaimed wood as it connects my early experiences working in my family’s joinery, my studies in furniture design, and my career in the environmental sector. Giving aged materials new life through sustainable practices is a core creative driver for me, deepening my interest in exploring physical objects suspended between their past utility and an uncertain future.

Biography

Olivia Jones is an Irish artist, living along the west coast of Ireland in Co. Sligo. From an early age Olivia was influenced by form and structure as she explored materials in her father’s wood workshop. This inspired her to follow a career in design, and after graduating with a BA(Hons) in Interior Architecture & Design from Sligo ATU, she worked for several years in design offices in Ireland, Europe and Australia, including the stage design department in the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Brussels.

Following a career in architecture, Olivia pivoted to a role in environmental engagement. This unique combination of experiences can be seen in her work, often showing natural and organic shapes restrained with architectural elements.

Olivia’s work has been exhibited nationally and in the UK, and her paintings are held in both private and corporate collections.
