Artist's Statement
My work moves between the current and the past making connections between both, and often merging these together through using multiple images of the same object or place. I am interested in symbolism of the seemingly mundane-the everyday in objects and spaces, and the emotions they provoke. Feelings of vulnerability, fragility and sentimentality are my typical starting points. The resulting work strives to draw attention to the details of the human condition, and to catalogue a sense of my own place in the world.
Photography provides the basis for my work, and many of the images I use may have been taken ten or fifteen years ago and sit in the back of my mind until the correct context in which to use them arises.
The finished work is realist in nature, usually exploiting washes and glazes, as I experiment with different opacities, with a deliberate use of colour.
