Artist's Statement

My work is primarily based in painting and drawing and is rooted in a fascination with the urban landscape and the structures and infrastructures that facilitate and influence our lives. This line of enquiry also encompasses how nature and the urban landscape interact.

The starting point for my work comes from photographic observations of the urban landscape and results in calculated paintings/drawings that play with mixed media, layering and geometric precision. My work focuses on interpreting what is perceived and creating a new visual reality that appears familiar and strange all the same time.

I work on a varied scale from large paintings and drawings to small scale pieces. The paintings are mixed media, including oil, acrylic paint and collage. My work is built up of overlapping layers, shapes and colours which create the abstracted and colourful landscapes.

Dee Walsh is a visual artist from Drogheda, Co. Louth. She works primarily in painting and drawing. Her work is rooted in a fascination with the urban landscape, and she creates pieces by layering architectural elements and geometric forms to produce colourful landscapes that drift into the surreal.

She has exhibited both nationally and internationally including Royal Ulster Academy Annual, Straight out of Ireland (USA), Borrowed Ground (IRE), Tulca (Ire) and Irishwave (China). She achieved a First- Class (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Gorey School of Art/ Carlow I.T, PME in Education from NCAD and is a recipient of the R.C Lewis Crosby Award for painting from the RDS and was awarded Droichead Artist Bursary 2021.
