Artist's Statement
Recent paintings explore the fluid nature of perception and memory. These works reflect an internal picture of lived, remembered, and imagined experience. Influenced by Zen, ink painting, abstraction, and photography, they carry the contrasting landscape imprints of both Hong Kong and Ireland, two ends of the Eurasian continent. Memories of sunlight under varied atmospheric conditions rise to the surface: dawn mist, city air, heavy pollution, sparse forests, ocean haze, storms and solstice fires form backdrops for deeper themes. At their core, the paintings consider the transience of the physical world and our evolving perception of it. Through dissolving surfaces and shifting imagery, each work seeks to capture the energy, space, and decay that animate our experience of the world.
