Artist's Statement

I work from memory and the atmospherics of place. Paintings emerge from visual experiences gathered in sketches. History, myth and literary associations also merge in the painting process. Motifs return over time, vanishing or reappearing in a composition. Colour adds a dreamlike afterglow to imagery, expressing textural as well as emotional depths.
