Joanne Duggan
Joanne Duggan is a visual artist living and working in Kildare, Ireland. She received her formal training in NCAD, graduating with a degree in textile design. As a professional artist Joanne has been drawn to freer forms of expression in abstract paintings.
Driven by a need and passion for self-expression, Joanne’s art work is characterised by abstraction. Starting with ink and acrylic she crafts her pieces, gradually transitioning to oils, her favourite medium. Each stroke and layer become a meditative experience, allowing her to explore and find her place in this world. "I don’t consider myself a painter who uses inspiration in a typical way now. The process in itself leads the painting. I’m generally problem solving and responding to what’s evolving in front of me. The work along with innumerable decisions made along the way is what informs me."
For Joanne, every painting is a reflection of her inner thoughts and emotions, serving as a visual expression of her exploration and understanding of the world around her. Through her abstract art, she invites viewers to contemplate their own place in the world and engage in a shared sense of introspection.
Joanne's dedication to her craft, combined with her unwavering commitment to self-discovery, has garnered her recognition and success. With an ever-expanding body of work and a steadfast determination to push artistic boundaries, she continues to grow her craft and her audience.
Having exhibited with galleries like Hang Tough Gallery for both their winter print exhibition and summer 'Paipear' show in 2022 and the Outset Gallery Galway, she also proudly showcased her work in 'The Straight Out Of Ireland' exhibition in Philadelphia which celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Ireland through the lens of talented artists and designers. One of her paintings was acquired by The University of Villa Nova for their art collection.
