Artist's Statement

This piece references a pivotal scene in Homer's The Odyssey, where Odysseus returns to his home in Ithaca from the war after 20 years but is disguised as a beggar. His wife Penelope orders a maidservant named Eurycleia to wash "the visitors" feet, but it just so happens Eurycleia also raised Odysseus and recognises a scar on his thigh that he got from a boat when he was a boy.
