Artist's Statement
My work is a series of figurative portraiture, working mainly with oils. Visually I aim for a balance of observation and unpredicted chaos. My process initially involves improvisation of the subject through digital collage and photographic reference to create a new mockup. To not rely on the original references to define the final outcome of the painting, I assemble a mix of narrative, texture, space and expression to convey the desired atmosphere.
Biography
Fiona Si Hui (xih-hway) b.1996 is an Irish-Chinese painter whose work focuses on introspection, existentialism, and identity. She currently is based in Dublin, Ireland.
In the 2019 Ruth Borchard Next Generation Collection, her work was highly commended by judges and added to Ruth Borchard Private Collection.
Her work has been added to private collections in Ireland and the UK.
